Theatrical Center “Word and Voice”,
in partnership and with the support of the ZMIN Foundation,
invites you to the PREMIERE of “THE ABBEY OF ZALYVAKHA.”
Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Opanas Zalyvakha — an artist who saw Ukraine in the colors of the spirit.
We still vividly remember the voice, the smile, the clarity of his gaze, the scent of fresh paint on the canvases of the great Painter! His works live on, and so does the incredible strength of his Thought and Spirit!
We dedicate this performance to him — yet it is also addressed to us, the contemporary artists of our own lives and of the life of Ukraine.
Together with Zalyvakha, we build a bridge to all the Sixtiers — their voices sustain us today, and their deeds give us the strength to keep winning.
What makes the performance unique is that it features only the texts of the Master and his friends.
This is the result of extensive work by the theater’s actors, who studied the articles, interviews, and letters of Opanas Zalyvakha, as well as the correspondence of his Sixtier friends: Alla Horska, Halyna Sevruk, Nadiyka Svitlychna, Liudmyla Semykina, Vira Khorosheva, and Ivan Hel.
“The image of the performance is the abyss of the world of a hermit-Master — a secret cell, a workshop, an ‘abbey’ of his eternal thought.
Within it, there is a constant, intense labor to answer the question: ‘WHO ARE YOU?’
This ultimate effort of human will and spirit gives birth to beauty — and that alone is our Ukraine.
In the heart and in vision. On earth and in heaven.”
