Christmas Concerts at St. Andrew’s Church, organized by the Master Class House, have already become a cherished tradition.
The highlight of this year’s concert was the creative collaboration of two unique artistic forces: the Kyiv Chamber Choir and Mykola Hobdych together with the theatrical center “Slovo i Holos” and Natalia Polovynka.
The combination of a highly professional choral school and authentic tradition made it possible to hear Christmas in all its polyphonic richness — from canonical forms to chants that have preserved their original purity and prayerful spirit.
Another participant in the concert was St. Andrew’s Church itself — a space seemingly created for Christmas: festive, radiant, with a distinctive acoustic aura. The evening unfolded in the light of voice, prayer, and music that has been resonating over Kyiv for centuries.
This gathering became a special dialogue of traditions and voices that came together in a single festive sound. The program brought together the most renowned national treasures — traditional sacred chants, folk carols, and shchedrivky, in which the memory, faith, and joy of Christmas live on. The благодатна акустика of the St. Andrew’s Church Museum and its magnificent iconostasis seemed to carry the music further, helping to convey the full richness of folk imagination and the deep wisdom of praising the birth of Christ. Sadly, this miracle can be seen and heard only once a year.
